General Rug Care

Our rugs come from a long history of ancient craftsmanship of rug making in Nepal. To care for them in the best way possible, and to make sure that they last for a long time, please follow these suggestions:

  • Our rugs are made from 100% sheep wool that have a natural oil in them, making it easy to wipe off any spills if they do not linger for too long. If any spills occur, prepare a lukewarm cloth to remove right away. If the spill lingers and has seeped in, please bring the rug to the shower and apply lukewarm water with a natural soap, if necessary, to the affected area. Drip hang to dry.
  • Try to avoid using strong or chemical soaps as this will remove the natural oils in the wool, but when absolutely necessary to use only a soap that is 'wool friendly'.
  • Keep the rugs dry and out of dark places, especially in highly humid climates. Air them out every now and then.
  • The rugs will shed, especially in the first 3-4 months, as they are made from natural fibres. Use a gentle vacuum head.
