Handmade Silver Jewelry
Meet Niroj & Nirajan
They are brothers from Kathmandu and make handmade silver jelwelry with Himalayan and Buddhist themes. They come from a family of jewellers since four generations. Since they were children, they used to watch their father and grandfather and try it out for themselves afterwards. This is how they learned the craft themselves. They primarily work with sterling silver and precious and semi-precious stones, such as turquoise, coral, lapis etc. from the Himalayan region.
Kathmandu - A City of Artists & Merchants
Throughout the Himalayan regions of Tibet, Bhutan and North India, historically, Kathmandu Valley was known for its exquisite and detailed art and craftsmanship in wood carvings, jewelry, textiles and more. As Nirajan explains it in the video below, 'people of Kathmandu have something inside that needs to come out!'. A creative pull of sorts. Here below you see an example of the kind of detailed craftsmanship the family makes. This is the Buddha of Compassion, Chenrezig, ornamented with turquoise and corals and other precious stones.
